Grima follows Jen during a game of heads up seven up in her school classroom. Her teacher, Miss Finster, has caught her cheating and pulls her to the front of the class to reprimand her. Miss Finster asks Jen to confess to what she has done, but Jen continues to lie. Miss Finster claws her nails down the chalkboard attempting to break Jen, but Jen refuses to come clean. Miss Finster drags another student, Mirabel, to the front of the class and asks Jen what she did to this girl. Jen tries to hide her secret, but Miss Finster continues to claw the chalkboard causing sensations of grima for the girls. Jen must decide whether to confront the truth about what she did or continue to suffer the excruciating sensations of grima.
Grima is a proof of concept short film that looks to explore the themes of guilt and shame and the specific sensation of grima some people experience from things like nails on a chalkboard. It culminates in a visceral moment that is the biggest fear for some if not many. The hope with grima is to challenge people to think about some of the things they feel guilty about and encourage them to confront the past instead of allowing the guilt to consume them. Grima is built on tension, practical effects, and an unsettling sound design that will leave audiences feeling unnerved but hopefully wanting more… like finding out what Jen did to Mirabel and why she is experiencing grima.
