Description

After the untimely death of his childhood best friend, Kevin rediscovers a box of their old belongings inherited after his passing. Inside sits a mysterious VHS tape, with the label “The Magic Time Machine!” Playing the tape, Kevin recovers long lost footage and memories of a summer camp-out with his High School buddies. Filled with nostalgia, Kevin’s enjoyment is soon interrupted by a haunting and tumultuous journey through time, filled with spectacle and abstraction. “For Old Times’ Sake,” is an intimate portrayal of friendship, memory, and grief, filled with real personal anecdotes and archival footage. It utilizes the conventions of a goofy 80’s genre film to convey concepts of loss. Formally, it’s a meditation on the power of the film medium as a means to capture memory and moments in time as we look back on our lives. Beyond anything, it’s a recognition of the permanence of our past and the significance of our uncertain future.
